Re: Present mess

Last I checked, this list has 1600+ subscribers. What this means is that a new moderator/listowner would need to have access to a listserver running either listserv <http://www.lsoft.com> or listproc <http://www.cren.net/listproc/> software. Majordomo, while minimally functional, would be overwhelmed by the traffic of this list. The full functionality of the list would be required (digest...). Subscribers would have to be able to set options themselves. Ask your systems people to see which, if any, they support. Just about any university will use one, or the other, and allow staff to set up mailing lists. My list, Book_Arts-L started on Listproc at Cornell, and was easily migrated to Listserv at Syracuse. An easier way, though a bit of a hassle for subscribers, would be to set up the list and then have everybody subscribe themselves. Helps to clear out inactive subscribers... It's not that tough to maintain a list, even of this size, but there is a learning curve. Depending on version of either, there is also a web interface, which makes maintenance easier.

Before we go this far though, let's see what happens, and whether EW has anything to offer.

A point has been raised that if one condemns EW for his stewardship of
Exlibris, that person should be willing to take on the responsibility. A
very good point. Is there anyone out there willing to take it on?

Hell, I already have too much on my plate, but I would be willing to take
it on and I believe there are others who would volunteer. The question is:
Is EW willing to give it up?
