I just joined the list today and so have missed the discussion of the
"present mess." From the handful of postings I've seen I gather it has
something to do with the postings of booksellers who announce new
catalogues. If that is so, then I am puzzled, because today when I signed
up, the stated policy is that such postings were permissible so long as they
were preceded by a reminder to respond to the posting privately. Could
somebody enlighten me offline or forward an informative previous posting to
explain the "mess"?
I did not join the list so I could announce catalogues, but if there is an
unfriendly attitude toward booksellers on this list I'd appreciate knowing
about it right up front. As a former rare book librarian with an MLS (UT,
way back in the 1970s) I'd be offended by any anti-bookseller antics and
will happily unsubscribe in a New York minute if that's what this is all
about.
One suggestion: I get messages from several listservs, mixed in among 80-100
daily emails of various kinds, and it would be very helpful if postings to
this list included the word EXLIBRIS in the subject line.
Sincerely,
