Professor Alan H. Nelson of the Department of English, University
of California, Berkeley, is attempting to trace books and manuscripts
formerly owned by Humphrey Dyson (1582-1633) of London. Dyson typically
signed the title-pages of his books with his distinctive signature
(Hum: Dyson), or marked his books with his inkstamp dated 1611.
Professor Nelson has traced some 380 books in major libraries,
but suspects others books and manuscripts formerly owned by Dyson
may lurk in private libraries, rare book dealerships, or auction
houses. He would like to hear from anyone who knows the present
or past whereabouts of any Dyson book. He has posted a list of
books traced so far on his website, under Provenance.
