Anti-carnivores

The bibliography of vegetarianism is rather complicated by pejorative
use of the term. Exponents, even vegans, often consider that the word is
superfluous. As if people were to band together and call themselves
"non-cannibals", and invent a special word for that. Or those who have
never encountered star-fruit should term themselves
"non-star-fruitarians". Whereas so-called "vegetarian" books are often
written by those merely proud of having a distaste for red meat, offal,
tripe, pigs-heart, etc. This can lead to false impressions as to the
safety of vegetarianism.
  The late Paul Bragg, "Life extension specialist", is a case in point;
his books include meat recipes, and he never claimed non-fat meat as
unhealthy. A buddy of Macfadden, with torso like Charles Atlas, Bragg
radiates from his covers on water-skis in his seventies; grinning like a
combination of Hayley Mills and Omar Sharif.
Yet the secret vice claimed him in the end. According to Mark
Braunstein, "Radical Vegetarianism" 1981 (revised 1993), Paul Bragg was
not a vegetarian, but ate flesh whenever he wished... about once every
ten years. It was not enough to save him, though. He is said to have
been writing his last book "I Challenge Death" when he died suddenly.
He was only 95. I suspect there are those on this list who would not
want such a fate to overtake our Paul, who started this dangerous
debate!
