Re: Who the hell was Henry H. Harper?

You're probably thinking of Lathrop C. Harper.

The 1906 BS yearbook contains a long article about HHH's farming activities -- with photographs. Unless everything in the article is pure invention, HHH was wealthy -- no need to defraud collectors.

Additional members/subscribers to the BS publications were J.P. Morgan, the BL, etc., etc., etc.

Contrary to my initial impression, many of the yearbooks were printed by other than Torch Press.

I have no particular feeling about the typographic quality of any of the BS publications or of any Torch Press publications, nor have I expressed any in this thread, but I certainly agree with M.McC about the scholarly interest of many of them.

My curiosity is peaked even further about HHH; my guess is that the yearbooks contain more information.

I'm under the impression, which may be wrong, that Henry H. Harper was a rare
book dealer of some distinction in the 1930s and '40s, and perhaps longer,
located in New York City.
