The only thing I recall about the Bibliophile Society is that they
occasionally claimed that something had not been previously printed when
truth it had. BAL records a few of these where part of the text was
original and others unnoted reprints, Fiske and Irving provide examples.
These could be the result of sloppy research rather than fraud so it would
be hard to make a case against them. They did publish a poem in their Fifth
Year Book alleged to be an unpublished poem by Longfellow that was actually
by Grenville Mellon. I think if one dug around, the BS followed a pattern
of unjustified and deceptive puffery about the importance of the material
they published.
