The British Library is seeking to appoint a andidate of the highest
quality to this key post. The Head, British ollections, 1501-1800, is
responsible for the planned development of he UK's national printed
archive to the turn of the nineteenth century an for improving access
to it.
He or she will deputise for the Head, Early Printed Collections,
representing the department both within the Library and externally.
The postholder will play a full role in the Library's senior
management teams and in the formulation of a policy response to the
challenges facing the Library.
Candidates will have a good honours degree and research-level
experience or a record of publication in a field appropriate for the
post. They will have a working knowledge of Latin and at least one
other modern European language.
The postholder should be able to demonstrate the ability to develop
and articulate policy at senior management level and to manage staff
and other resources. Good presentation skills will be essential
in this post. Experience of (or a strong commitment to) the
development of digital or networked services and in fundraising or
revenue generation in the heritage sector will also be an advantage.
