I enclose a reply from the Australian National Library on this topic. The first book seems to be a hoax. Until I see it I cannot tell (compare books printed in Cosmopoli‹or Cosmopolis?‹ by Richard Burton and others). BY the way Norway controls large parts of Antarctica and the Norwegian National LIbrary should be checked as indeed the Lenin Libnrary and the Library of Congress for Russian and US imprints. I haven't made a thorough check of all the countries with stakes in Antarctica: the first atlas I consulted in my own library did not even have the continent in it. I think Chile controls some part too. There could be more "books" printed in Antarctica than you would think. Paul Knobel Reader : 1062 Request No: 5798 27th September Dear Mr Knobel Thank you for your message of 23rd September requesting information on works published on Antarctica. This has proved to be a very interesting search. I first searched on Kinetica (Australian national bibliographic database) The results of this search depend largely on the correct coding of catalogue records on Kinetica (I searched under various codes for Antarctica as place of publication). I also searched on the NLA catalogue under various subject headings, including your suggestions of place names. There does not appear to be a great many items actually published on Antarctica.
