Dear Vic,
Prof.David Tatham of Syracuse University has done a good deal of work on
Gaugengigl. Some of the articles appear in the annuals of the American
Print Historical Group. But don't look for him in the one edited by Tatham
on New York State, Gaugengigl was active in the Boston art world [only] for
a number of years as a portrait painter and draftsmen for lithography. His
hyper-realist style went over very well in the last quarter of the
nineteenth century. You might also try the James Carr edition and
continuation of Mantle Fielding for both.
Gaugengigl does get a short and accurate mention in Benezit.
Sincerely,
Gabriel
