talk on Ben Franklin

At 4:30 P.M. on Thursday, February 22, there will be a talk at Providence
College's Slavin Center by Ellen Cohn, editor of the papers of Benjamin
Franklin, on "Benjamin Franklin and the first American typefoundry." The
talk, which is free and open to the public, is being sponsored jointly by
the New England Chapter of the American Printing Association and the John
Russell Bartlett Society, a group of Rhode Island book collectors. In the
course of her work Ms. Cohn has turned up a great deal of new information on
Franklin's printing business in Passy including the exciting discovery that
he established a type foundry there for the purpose of supplying type to
American printers during the Revolution. Philip J. Weimerskirch, Special
Collections Librarian, Providence Public Library
