History Workshop

In collaboration with Rare Book School, the Lyons-based Institut
d'histoire du livre is offering three advanced four-day courses courses
in the fields of book and printing history. Courses on offer:
Printed
ephemera,tutor: Michael Twyman
(course in English) Type, lettering and calligraphy
1450-1830,tutor: James Mosley (course
in French) Texts and images in the digital
age, tutorMichel Melot (course in
French)
The Book History Workshop is aimed not only at book and printing
historians but also at the many other specialists who encounter questions
related to book and printing history in the course of their work:
researchers, teachers, archivists, librarians, antiquarian booksellers,
designers, etc.
The courses offered by the Institut d'histoire du livre cover
various aspects of the history of the book and graphic communications.
Subjects are dealt with from both theoretical and practical points of
view through illustrated lectures, discussions and the study of original
documents. The collections of Lyons city library and the Museum of
printing provide an important source of original documents for study.
Courses are offered either in French or in English, as indicated
above.
The courses will take place in Lyons from the 24th to the 27th September
2001.
Classes will be held at the École normale supérieure - lettres et
sciences humaines (Lyon) with sessions at the Lyons printing Museum and
the City library.
