I am working on a ten volume set, Johannis Cocceji, Opera Omnia, 1701. In
addition, there is one volume on the title page of which it states, "TOMUS
ALTER". I am assuming this is an added volume of commentary. The label on
the spine of this volume states that it is "TOM. XI" These books were all
bound at about the same time (c. 1750) and printed on the same paper, so
they do go together, but the volume labeled as volume eleven is not really
that. My question is this: Did labels of this period typically identify
"added" books such as this "TOMUS ALTER" as part of the numbered set, or is
this an anomaly?
Thanks,
