Walker Library Web Site Announcement

Washington State University Manuscripts, Archives and Special
Collections is pleased to announce completion of a web site devoted to
the library of Elkanah and Mary Richardson Walker:

	http://www.wsulibs.wsu.edu/holland/masc/walkerdescription.html

Elkanah and Mary Richardson Walker were among the second group of
nine missionaries forming the Old Oregon Mission of the American Board
of Commissioners of Foreign Missions (ABCFM), initiated in 1836 by
Marcus and Narcissa Whitman and Henry and Eliza Spalding.
The Walker library (176 titles) is quite possibly the first private
library in the Pacific Northwest, and certainly the only early private
library that remains intact.
Features of the web site include access to the catalog records,
scanned images of some prominent books in the collection, use of the
Innovative Interfaces image module (linking images to the actual
catalog records), and a brief biography on the Walkers.
