Cheap Street Press Archives

I am posting this at the request of Cheap Street. DO NOT USE YOUR EMAIL
REPLY FUNCTION TO RESPOND TO THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. MAKE SURE ANY REPLY GOES
TO jg@cheapst.com AND NOT TO THE LIST. --ECW

For over 20 years Cheap Street has published original,
contemporary fiction in a fine press
format. These are signed, numbered books (editions of no
more than 200 copies per title)
crafted with the finest materials available. Cheap Street
was the first press to regularly
import Japanese bookbinding cloth for use in these
books;remnants were resold after publi
cation to bookbinders and other presses.

Authors published include Anne McCaffrey, Charles de Lint,
Andre Norton, Ursula Le Guin, Fritz Leiber, Gene Wolfe, and
Thomas M. Disch (and others). Most stories were written by
these authors especially for Cheap Street. The materials
were commissioned by the Press rather than accepted upon
open submissions (which were not sought or accepted).

Cheap Street never asked for or received NEA or other
nonprofit funding. If a title was worth the time and effort
to produce, we believed it should be able to find sufficient
numbers of collectors and libraries to support these
efforts.

At this time, the proprietors of Cheap Street are retiring
the Press (and themselves as well). We seek to place our
archives with a library which will be willing to make a
commitment to their preservation. Press copies of each
title (at least 2 states of each) as well as author files
form the core of the archive.
