Dear Exlibrans
This problem was recently posted by another New Zealand librarian on
nz-libs, but so far no one has been able to solve it. I've offered to post
it to exlibris on the original requestor's behalf. A simple Google search
reveals the quotation is used in several websites and attributed to Charles
Dickens, but without a full reference. I've scanned the modest resources in
our own specialist Dickens Collection to no avail.
Can anyone help: I need the exact source of this quote -
The forces that affect our lives, the influences that mould and shape
us, are often like whispers in a distant room, teasingly indistinct,
Apprehended only with difficulty.
Charles Dicken
Many thanks.
