Grolier Club "Irish" Exhibition & Catalogue

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THE LIST.

We are pleased to announce:

"To Set the Darkness Echoing": An Exhibition of Irish Literature,
1950-2000.

Curated by James O'Halloran, Stephen Enniss, & Ronald Schuchard.
NY: The Grolier Club, 2002.

6 x 9. 60 pages with 9 plates. Wraps. One of 500 copies. ISBN
0-910672-43-1.
A "meaty" catalogue, organized by decades, of books, manuscripts,
letters, and art by Samuel Beckett, Seamus Heaney, Brian Moore, Louis
MacNeice, Thomas Kinsella, Medbh McGuckian, Paul Muldoon, Edna O'Brien,
Brian Friel, J. P. Donleavy, Michael Longley, and many others. The
exhibition documents the careers of these outstanding Irish writers,
while touching on relationships with their publishers, including private
presses. The introduction by Schuchard and the narrative descriptions
by Enniss provide a capsule history of 20th century Irish literature.
The exhibition has been conceived as a sequel to "The Indomitable
Irishry," which focussed on Irish literature from 1886 to 1942
(catalogue published in Gazette of the Grolier Club, New Series No. 2,
1966).

This free, public exhibition is on view at The Grolier Club from May 15
to July 27.
