Dresden Gallery and Hanfstaengl.

This title page is quite common:

Hanfstaengl, Franz : VORZUGLICHSTEN GEMAELDE DER KOENIGLICHEN GALLERIE IN
DRESDEN In Photographischen Abbildungen Nach der Originalen Herausgegebem
von Franz Hanfstaengl.~ Herz Saxe-Coburg Coth. Hofrath., 1839.

But I have not been able to track down any copies of the same, dated 1860
and reproduced on an albumen print in portfolio with a version consisting
of large albumen prints after the paintings.

But I do know that German institutions have taken note of Hanfstaengl's
development as in this catalog :

Franz Hanfstaengl : Von der Lithographie zur Photographie ; Ausstellung im
Münchner Stadtmuseum 1. März bis 29. April 1984 / [Hrsg.] von Heinz
Gebhardt. - München : Beck, 1984

But I am not aware of the contents of this catalog, and especially I am not
aware of a copy of the portfolios of photographs in existence. None has
been decipherable from the on line catalogs, for example.

I note in those I have seen that the paintings in Leipzig do not have any
brown sauce on them anywhere, making it very desirable that the entire
series should be seen by qualified scholars.

Does anyone have information on the existence of this large and extensive,
early photographic archive of master paintings?

Gabriel Laderman
