Actually I think its a relatively small price for a
free copy of a newspaper, especially since, although
they probably set a cookie, they did NOT ask for your
email address. The more newspapers are available free
on line, the more all of us can find out about the
world and how it wags. It is certainly not an
invasion of your privacy for a company selling a
service to ask for some recompense. Last time I
applied for a library card (in Lawrence Kansas) I had
to fill out several MUCH more intrusive forms and back
up the information I supplied with proof of both my
identity and address.)
As an American citizen living in the UK, these
newspapers have been an invaluable resource, and one I
fear will be closed down any day now due to financial
restrictions. I'll admit it's an annoyance to fill out
these cursed forms that the net has spawned, but I
think its worth it.
