Melanie,
I'm thinking of rejoining the Washington Rare Book Group after an absence of
several years. What is the current fee, or can you tell me who to contact
for membership info?
Thanks!

Subject: Washington Rare Book Group Meeting, May 20, 2004
The WASHINGTON RARE BOOK GROUP
invites members and friends
to a talk by
TERRY BELANGER, Director, Rare Book School
on "Fifteen tons and what do you get?: The RBS teaching collections (not
entirely excluding 'Lucile')"
at the Ft. McNAIR Officers' Club Thursday May 20, 2004, from 11:30 to 2:00.
For our final meeting before the summer break (and officially our annual
meeting for the election of next year's
officers), we are pleased to have Terry Belanger, founder and Director of
Rare Book School now located at the
University of Virginia, to talk about the joys, frustrations, and
serendipities of building the RBS teaching collections.
Best-known for its collection of editions of the once wildly popular poem
"Lucile," RBS has developed collections ranging
from the scholarly to the dilapidated to the idiosyncratic, for the purpose
of illustrating the history of printing and specific
aspects of bibliography. Prof. Belanger is known for his erudition, humor,
and strong opinions, and his talk is sure
to be both lively and informative.
We will meet at the Ft. McNair Officers' Club on Washington's Southwest
waterfront. Directions: The main entrance is at
4th & P Sts. SW, but if that's closed carry on along P St. to the next one
down. The nearest Metro stop is Waterfront
on the Green line: from the exit in the mall parking lot, cross M St. and
walk down 4th for several blocks, follow the road left
onto P St. at the dogleg, and then right at the driveway into the Fort. A
map and further directions are available at:
http://www.ndu.edu/info/visitingNDU.cfm .
For security reasons you will be asked for ID at the gate; if you're
driving, your car will be searched. Please allow time for this delay.
The cash bar will start at 11:30, with lunch at 12:00 and Prof. Belanger's
talk at 1:00. The charge for the lunch is
$21.00 per person, and you MUST reserve a place in advance. We're on a
short deadline and need to receive your
check (made out to the WRBG) by Wednesday MAY 12. Send it to Leslie
Overstreet, 7735 Tauxemont Rd.,
Alexandria VA 22308; or call Leslie at work (202) 357-2376.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Leslie Overstreet
President, WRBG
