We have a book of engravings of Michelangelo's paintings for the Sistine
Chapel. The engravings are by Adam Ghisi. The title reads simply:
Michael Angelus Bonarotus pinxit
Adam Sculptor Mantuanis incidit.
There is no imprint or further text, just 73 engravings.
I have found records on Copac for this work, published 1560 and 1580 and an
auction record on the web for a 1612 edition.
To add a further complication, our copy actually consists of the original
engravings mounted on larger sheets of paper. I am simply not expert enough
to be able to date the paper.
So, what exactly have we got? And how do I catalogue it? Any suggestions
gratefully received.
If there are any experts in London I would be happy to show them the book.
