Two questions, if you will allow me:
1. Why is the "Dedication To The Queen" dated 1897 in
the 1888 first edition of the first bound volume of
the OED?
2. Has any one else noticed that in modern times a
premium is placed on the use of amiguous language?
Hence, "cool" can mean an item is desireable (that's a
cool hat, I want one) or not desireable (the hat
evoked a cool response). I blame politicians for this,
as a ploy so no one knows that they mean so they can't
in retrospect ever be wrong.
