Book, antiquities thief picked up in Keokuk on warrant for parole
violation

By Cindy Iutzi/Gate City Staff Writer
Convicted antiquities thief Steven C. Blumberg, 56, of St. Paul
Minn., is back in the area, was arrested Monday, made bond and is out
of jail, according to Assistant Chief Tom Crew of the Keokuk Police
Department.

Also arrested Monday was Steven T. Worden, 28, of Hillsboro. He was
released after his bond was paid.

At 9:38 a.m. Monday the probation office on Seventh Street in Keokuk
asked the KPD to pick up Blumberg and Worden at the probation office
on outstanding warrants for probation violation.

The probation violation charges stem from Blumberg and Worden being
charged on June 20 with residential burglary and possession of
burglary tools in conjunction with a break-in in Knox County, Ill.
The men pleaded guilty to criminal trespass on July 7, approximately
one year from their arrest in Keokuk on similar charges.

At the time of the Knoxville crime, the men were on supervised
probation for five years after a five-year prison sentence was
suspended in South Lee County Court this January by District Court
Judge David Hendrickson.

The men had been arrested in Keokuk on July 3, 2003, after breaking
into a house and stealing antique door knobs. A plea agreement had
been reached for third degree theft, a Class D felony. An habitual
offender allegation had been dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Blumberg also had been sentenced to pay a $7,500 fine.

Neither Lee County Attorney Mike Short or Assistant Lee County
Attorney Bruce McDonald could be reached for comment before press
time.
