Help identify W. R. Shier

We have a book (Les oeuvres de Platon, Amsterdam, 1700, vol. 2 only)
acquired by the Advocates Library in 1705 which subsequently went
walk-about, only to return from Canada in 1996. One mark of provenance is a
stamp: Library of WM. R. SHIER No ... [ours has 139 written in there]. If
anybody can identify this person and, better still, knows anything about the
disposal of his library, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

Thanks

Brian Hillyard
