Le Grand d'Aussy's "Histoire de la vie privée des français" is the
first comprehensive history of French gastronomy.
The first edition, published in 3 volumes in 1782, is cited by numerous
bibliographies, both specific (such as Vicaire and Bitting) and general
(such as Brunet and Graesse). No bibliography--as far as I know--mentions
the existence of copies on special paper.
I have just found a set on Hollande, and I am interested in learning, if
possible, the relative rarity of such sets. Does anyone have any information
on this? While the paper is somewhat similar, the book block of volume
one is about 18 mm thick if the copy is on regular paper, and about 29 mm
thick if the copy is on Hollande. Any other Hollande copies out there?
Best
Bill Cole
