Duchamp and Le Surréalisme en 1947

The inquiry below is posted for a colleague at another
university. Unless replies seem likely to be of general
interest to ExLibris, they should go neither to Ex Libris
nor to me but directly to her:

          Jan Paris, Conservator, Special Collections
          Conservation Laboratory, UNC-Chapel Hill

                    <jparis@email.unc.edu>.

                           Thanks, Dan Traister

A copy of the exhibit catalog *Le Surréalisme en 1947* is in the
conservation lab for treatment. This copy is from the "deluxe" edition
with a Duchamp ready-made cover/chemise featuring a foam rubber breast
on black velvet.

In addition to the Duchamp chemise, there is another "sort-of" chemise
and a slipcase, both covered in black paste paper with a design based on
letters, some of which are clearly from the name of the publisher
(Pierre à Feu, Maeght). I haven't read anything about these additional
enclosures in any of the descriptions I've found. My primary question is
whether they were original to the "deluxe edition" or are copy specific
or . . .

I?m hoping that some comparative information from a few other libraries
that hold a copy will answer my questions. If you have any digital
images of your copy, I?d be most interested in making a visual comparison.

Many thanks in advance,
Jan Paris
