Position Title: Head, Special Collections and Archives
Position Description: Associate or full professor; tenure-track faculty position; permanent 12-month appointment. Reports to the Library Dean. Provides innovative leadership for Special Collections and Archives Department. Supervises 2 FTE staff. Responsible for reference service, collection development, organization, maintenance and preservation of the collections, which include archives and manuscripts historical photographs and maps, and book collections. Develops print and electronic indices, guides, and finding aids. Responsible for outreach through publications, presentations, Special Collections and Archives website, and library exhibits. Collaborates on digital initiatives. Prepares grants in support of department activities. Serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Library Associates. Must be knowledgeable in professional archival and rare book standards, principles, concepts, and practices; must have good knowledge of the applications of technology to archival manageme
nt and access; must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with library personnel, university constituencies, and the broader community. Library faculty must demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement and service for tenure and promotion.
Qualifications and Experience:
Required: Earned Master’s degree from an
ALA-accredited library school
Three years of experience in archives
appropriate to the position
Supervisory experience
Preferred: Formal archival training
or certification as an archivist
Second Master’s degree or a Doctoral
degree
Knowledge of western American history
Record of publication in western
American history and/or archives
Experience with applications of
technology to archival management and
access
Salary and Benefits: Salary based at the Associate or Full Professor rank. Benefits include standard state life and health insurance, and retirement options including TIAA-CREF.
