Advice is very much needed on how you are all handling the brittle books
problem. I am currently doing an inventory/weeding project and also
working with transfers/gifts into the collection. Since I am very new to
this, please excuse my lack of knowledge on this. Questions:
1. Is there any criteria in the library literature or a policy your
library has created to decide when/if to withdraw or digitize a piece?
2. If the piece is virtually unuseable, doesn't have a great market
value (say under $300.00 for a copy in FINE condition), there are copies
available for sale, there are other libraries who own it (ex. OCLC notes
there are 100 other libraries that own it), there is digital copy
available - are there other criteria to consider for withdrawing a piece
that is brittle or in very poor condition.
Thank you very much!
