A general enquiry prompted by a specific case. I am just about to catalogue
a copy of Thomas Rogers's The pleasures of memory (1810). It is an
inscribed copy, with a manuscript inscription from the author to Lord Byron
and also contains a 12 line poem by Byron himself (Byron returned the book
to the author with this poem inscribed).
So, how do I find out if this poem is a known work? If it isn't is there
anyone I should inform? We have other works with inscriptions by people
such as James Joyce, Robert Browning etc. Is there a proper procedure for
this sort of thing?
Any advice would be most welcome - directly to me or to the list if there
is general interest.
Thank you,
Susan
