Rare Book School is pleased to announce a $122,250 award from the Institute
of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) for 150 full-tuition scholarships to
the school, 50 scholarships each for the three years 2006, 2007, and 2008,
as part of the IMLS "Librarians for the 21st Century" program. The IMLS
announcement states:
The University of Virginia Rare Book School will offer 50 full-tuition
scholarships to a diversified range of students for each of the next three
years. As one of the few library schools providing systematic training for
rare book and special collections librarians and curators, conservators,
scholars, and others professionally concerned with the history of printed
books and manuscripts, this program will allow the school to increase its
current level of scholarship support from fewer than 4 percent to about 15
percent of those attending, increasing the number and diversity of its
student body.
Details about applying for these scholarships will be posted on the RBS Web
site. The application deadline for the first round of scholarship awards is
1 October 2005.
