[EXLIBRIS:31728] Rutherford Aris obit



Rutherford Aris, the author of a terrific introduction to the history of letterforms (Explicatio formarum litterarum = The unfolding of letterforms. St Paul, MN: Calligraphy Connection, 1990), died Nov. 2. Turns out that classics and paleography were just hobbies. He was a distinguished chemical engineer -- with an imaginary alter ego named Aris Rutherford, validated by Who's Who:
