In "Thieme-Becker"(Allgemeines Lexikon der Bildenden Künstler von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart), Bd. 19 (1926) you find an article "Jonnard, Paul", in which Jonnard is mentioned as one of the woodcutters of the Doré-edition of Dante's "Paradis" (1869). ("Mitarbeiter an ... der Doré-Ausgabe von Dante's "Paradis" (1869)). And in "Dantes Göttliche Komödie, Drucke und Illustrationen aus 6 Jahrhunderten, Leipzig 2000, S. 110, the following information on Dorés illustrations for the Divina commedia is given: There were the woodcutters Pannemaker, Gusmand, Jonnard, Pisan and Laplante making woodcuts for Doré, after his drawings, and the plates were used for numerous reprints, followed by a lot of editions with reproductions in lesser quality.
Maybe this would help you.
Cheers
Bettina

Betreff: [EXLIBRIS:31770] Jonnard engravings
I have a copy of "The Vision of Purgatory and Paradise of Dante
Alighieri. Translated by The Rev. Henry Francis Cary. And Illustrated
with the Sixty Designs of Gustave Dore", 1893 Cassel. A customer is
asking if the engravings are by Paul Jonnard. I can find no indication
one way or the other. Do any of you know or know how I can determine
this.
cheers
