The library at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in
Brooklyn has a WiFi system that allows any one with a
WiFi adapter on their computer to access the internet
inside the Library the same as they would from their
personal ISP at home, except that certain sites (for
the most part porno sites) are blocked by a filter
that is customized by the IT staff. Password protected
web pages and data bases remain password protected,
the same as for the computers in the library that are
available for use by all library patrons.
This system is hugely cost effective for the Library
and there are plans to extend the WiFi system to the
entire school and hospital.
