The winners of these two awards will be announced at the conference.
Beverley Becker is associate director of ALA's Office of Intellectual
Freedom (OIF). She currently serves as OIF Staff Liaison to the State
Intellectual Freedom Committees. The importance of
intellectual freedom in the educational process, current issues
affecting intellectual freedom and how to deal with them is the focus
of her presentation.
Pat Scales will speak on her book, Teaching Banned Books: 12 Guides
for Young Readers. She is currently director of Library and
Information
Services, South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and

Full Conference: $149*/$169 includes: conference handbook, lunch and
dinner on Friday, breakfast on Saturday, and all Friday and Saturday
sessions.
Friday Only: $95*/$110 includes: handbook, lunch, dinner, and Friday
sessions.
Friday Evening Only: $15 includes: the evening session and reception
only (no dinner or handbook).
Saturday Only: $75 includes: breakfast, handbook and Saturday
sessions.

CPDUs will be available for the conference. Indicate your interest on
the registration form.
Parking: Your confirmation letter will include a parking pass. To
avoid a parking ticket, you will need to follow the directions
included.

Location: NIU is only a short drive from Elgin, Aurora, Naperville,
and
Rockford, less than an hour from Oak Brook and Schaumburg, and only a
little more than an hour away from both downtown Chicago and O'Hare
International Airport.
Overnight Accommodations: Hotel rooms can be scarce during this time
period, so please reserve your room early. Details will be sent in the
confirmation letter or visit the conference website. The Holmes
Student Center Guest Rooms will be filled by lottery and you will be
contacted
by their staff if you participated.
Deadline/Cancellations: Registration deadline: March 8, 2006. Meals
cannot be guaranteed if you register after March 8. If you must
cancel, contact the Registrar by March 10, 2006 (Call 815-753-0277 or
