As a person with a physical disability (fibromyalgia) which is
NOT recognized by most states as a disability, I would have to say a
job description such as the Cornell one virtually guarantees that I
would not be able to find a job if I had to leave my present position.
There are days I CAN lift a 40 pound box. But there are other days I
cannot do so. Luckily the Antiquarian Society tries to accommodate my
physical limitations.
I would suggest that physical requirements be moved to the
"desirable" abilities, not the "required" ones, so that qualified people
who do have some sort on limitation would at least be encouraged to
apply for positions and not be counted out right from the start.
