Requirements

As [I hope] a coda to this discussion, I note in the obituary for a
parson, on his first job:

"An advertisement for a new chaplain for the Falkland Islands, which
stated that the successful candidate would be "capable of slaughtering
and butchering his own meat", startled some of its readers but led to
the appointment of a dedicated and versatile priest".

Perhaps librarians and archivists should be required to write the
archives and books. But I believe our sense of obligation woukld
forestall adding to the messy and oft insignificant mass of what has
already been done, and in 20 years will be dust-covered.
