That disdain is not recent. I've just finished editing the early
critical writings of Northrop Frye for the Collected Works (the book
will be out in December). The volume concludes with what I believe is
his most frequently reprinted book, "The Educated Imagination" (1963),
the Massey lectures commissioned by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
When the book was shortly thereafter published in the US, Frye had to
fight very hard to retain the Canadian references, which were central to
the discussion. He won. Germaine.
