In my earlier response I failed to explain that my preference for using
originals is based on the fact that I want to keep my mind open to
discovering other aspects of the object than those that I had anticipated. A
surrogate transmits only a partial record of the original. The object
itself, once seen, often reveals other questions that I can (and should) ask
of it.
