Banned Books Week
Oak Knoll Books & Press are celebrating the 25th
annual Banned Books Week sponsored by the ALA. We
are offering some books on the subject of
censorship. Also, there is a link at the bottom of
this email to the ALA website for Banned Book Week.
"Congress Shall Make No Law Respecting an
Establishment of Religion, or Prohibiting the Free
Exercise Thereof; or Abridging the Freedom of
Speech, or of the Press; or the Right of the People
Peaceably to Assemble, and To Petition the
Government for a Redress of Grievances." - First
Amendment
"Restriction of free thought and free speech is the
most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one
un-American act that could most easily defeat
us."-Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas," The
One Un-American Act." Nieman Reports, vol. 7, no. 1
(Jan. 1953): p. 20.

Books on Censorship & Those Who Fought for a Free Press
The featured book is JOHN PETER ZENGER, HIS PRESS, HIS TRIAL
AND A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ZENGER IMPRINTS. This is a
biography of Zenger, an eighteenth-century printer
(1697-1746), whose trial inspired "freedom of the
press" in colonial America.
We have chosen 71 other books to create a special
censorship catalogue in honor of Banned Books Week.
