British Book Trade Index (BBTI) isn't the site I had in mind, but it
*is* wonderful.
After hours of trawling though BBTI, and playing with the search
engine, I found what I was looking for on their links page:
London Book Trade Database - this biographical database of London
book-trade practitioners, maintained by Michael Turner at the Bodleian
Library, is not currently available on-line. All enquiries to Michael
Turner: londonbooktrades@btinternet.com
I have contacted Michael a few times over the years, and he has always
been very helpful, but I had lost the details (I had also hoped that
by now this database had become available online).

I don't know if it's the resource you're thinking of, but you might try the
