[EXLIBRIS-L] indexing and cataloging question

Hello,

I'm a special collections cataloger at Texas Tech University. I've used
relator terms in 700 fields for many books in our collection, but our
system does not index them so that the books by a particular person (as
entered in a 100 field) fall into a different list than the books with
the 700 field and a subfield e, relator term. By this I mean that the
basic author browse searches both 1xx and 7xx fields, but doesn't
display 7xx with subfields on a different line in the browse return hit
list. Our problem is perhaps exaggerated because our manuscript/book
collection focuses on contemporary writers, people still publishing
today.

We use Aleph (Ex-Libris), so any suggestions from other users would be
greatly appreciated. This is causing a great problem for our patrons,
but I can't seem to explain it well enough to our systems people to get
the solution I want. One of their suggestions was to confine the author
search to 1xx fields.

Is it impossible to have separate listings? How could that be
accomplished in Aleph? Please feel free to reply to me off-list.

Thanks,

Diane Warner
