Dear ExLibris members
In 2006 we mounted four successful exhibitions: West meets East: Images of
China and Japan (February-May); The Black Art: hand printing in the
Bibliography Room, 1961-2005 (June- August); In the Flesh: The Monro
Dynasty (September-December); Master of the Burin: the Book illustrations
of John Buckland Wright (December to March 2007).
In 2006 we had three successful publications: "Amassing Treasures for All
Times. Sir George Grey, Colonial Bookman and Collector" (Otago University
Press/Oak Knoll); "The Smell of Powder: A History of Duelling in New
Zealand" (Random House NZ); and a hand-set limited edition of Lewis
Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark, with illustrations by David Elliot
(Otakou Press, Printer in Residence Programme, University of Otago).
In 2006 we had 3,250 visitors to Special Collections (January to 20
December) and 336 readers using 430 titles.
In 2006, we digitized covers from our Pulp Fiction Collection (801 titles)
and completed our on-line "Incunabula at the University of Otago."
A busy year. So, in anticipation of 2007, a year of consolidation, I offer
hearty down-under season's greetings to you all & thank you for the
opportunity to read and digest and chuckle and respond (sometimes) to all
the e-missives. Do have a good break & return refreshed.
Sincerely
Donald Kerr
