Thread-topic: [EXLIBRIS-L] Collectors' guide to historic cookery books?
I guess it depends on what you mean by "guide", but the bibliography we
commonly use is:
MacLean, Virginia. A short-title catalogue of household and cookery
books published in the English tongue, 1701-1800. (London: Prospect
Books ; [Charlottesville, Va.] : Distributed in the USA by the
University Press of Virginia, 1981).
It includes Americana, but is mostly British.
The National Library of Medicine has a great 18th-century cookbook
collection, by the way. They often contain home remedies for everything
from gout to rabies.

Subject: [EXLIBRIS-L] Collectors' guide to historic cookery books?
Greetings all.
On the basis that librarians know everything, a friend has asked me, "do
you know of a decent collectors' guide to English cookery books? There
are plenty for American cookery books, and I found the Prospect one, but
it's not quite what I'm after."
I come to the conclusion that I don't know this particular aspect of
everything - but if somebody else on the list does, I shall be very glad
to hear from you.
As ever,
Jane
