A still useful title on early material is: A.W. Oxford's 'English
Cookery Books to the year 1850' (Oxford University Press, Oxford, first
edition, 1913.) which has careful descriptions and, in many cases, substantial
annotations.
Also of possible interest : Eric Quayle's 'Old
Cook Books : An Illustrated History.' (Studio Vista, London, first edition,
1978.)

Subject: [EXLIBRIS-L] Collectors' guide to historic cookery books?
Greetings all.
On the basis that librarians know everything, a friend has asked me, "do
you know of a decent collectors' guide to English cookery books? There
are plenty for American cookery books, and I found the Prospect one, but
it's not quite what I'm after."
I come to the conclusion that I don't know this particular aspect of
everything - but if somebody else on the list does, I shall be very glad
to hear from you.
As ever,
Jane
