I am not sure I explained myself well as to the use of blogspot as a photohost.

A friend of mine uses it as such, her site (as an example) can be seen here.

You can assign keywords to the image, search by the keywords, have a
designated url for all your entries, each enty will have a url as
well, and each image will have an image url, should you just want to
only display the picture. In addition, you can enter textural
commentary (such as shannon did in the example above) about the
picture if so desired.

I like it a lot, it is a Google company, and it is very, very free.
