Re: [EXLIBRIS-L] Joanne Anisson--18th Century France

Dear Alice,

Yes, thank you, that is very helpful. The name appears in the colophon, with Latin text, so that makes sense. I don't have the book in front of me right now, so I can't remeber the exact phrasing, however, I believe that "printed by" was the general gist. I had wondered if Joanne was another name for Jean, but looking at lists of French names, all of the names that ended with "anne" were female. I didn't realize that a name would be translated as well.

Thanks again and happy new year!

  -Katie

  Dear Ms. Carr,

this may be off the mark, because you don't give the context in which
Joanne Anisson appears, but the Latin for Jean Anisson could be Joannes
Anisson [rather than Johannes], and in formulas such as "printed by"
the name would be in the ablative case and appear as Joanne Anisson.
If Joanne Anisson is appearing in this kind of Latin context, she may
be Jean's alter ego rather than his wife.

Apologies if someone's suggested this already - I get exlibris in
digest.

Happy new year,

Alice Browne
