Position Title: Rare Book Cataloger

Position Summary and Responsibilities: 	The Vassar College Library invites
applications for the position of Rare Book Cataloger. This is a temporary
(2-year), full-time position with the possibility of renewal. Reporting to
the Associate Director of the Libraries for Special Collections, the
successful candidate will have principal responsibility for the
retrospective conversion of selected items in the rare book collection.
May also perform original and copy cataloging of rare books and other
printed materials recently acquired by the Archives & Special Collections
Library. May supervise one or more students.

Qualifications: 	M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution; a B.A. in the
humanities is preferred. Cataloging experience, preferably with rare books
and related materials, required. Knowledge of current standards, practices
and trends in rare books cataloging, experience with AACR2R, LCSH, LC
classification, USMARC formats, metadata standards, DCRB and OCLC
applications. Experience working with an integrated library system,
preferably Innovative's Millennium. Computer proficiency essential.
Bibliographic knowledge of at least two ancient and/or modern European
languages. This position requires excellent organizational skills,
attention to detail, and an ability to work effectively both independently
and as a member of a team.

Compensation: Salary range $46,500-50,000, plus benefits.
