Sender: Rare book and manuscripts <EXLIBRIS-L@LISTSERV.INDIANA.EDU>
Hi All,
Sorry to revisit this subject again, but, was wondering whether standard
practice was always to include a Rare Book ID strip with items that are
placed in an archival housing or have a mylar wrap.
Ex. Archival folders, envelopes, books that have a dust jacket that have
a mylar cover protector, mylar sleeves, archival phase boxes or archival
clamshell boxes.
Is it enough to put the, call number / property stamp / barcode, on the
archival container or do you also include the ID strip with the same
information and place it inside the archival container with the piece?
It seems unnecessary to include the ID strip if the information is
already on the archival container; but I wonder if there is some reason
for doing both.
We would continue to use ID strips for books that don't have an archival
housing or cover.
Thanks much,
