Derry And Raphoe Diocesan Library Project
Project Director and Chief Conservator
Ref: J07/242/W
Here is an entire historic library in need of conservation, a library which was believed had been lost. A once in a career opportunity.
This project is a partnership between the University of Ulster and the Church of Ireland Diocese of Derry and Raphoe, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with backing from Derry City Council and the Western Education and Library Board. The successful candidate will set up and lead a team of three conservation assistants and an access and outreach officer to conserve a collection of 5,000 items, almost all in original bindings, dating from 1480 - 1900.
The team will be based in a university city which is experiencing major growth in the arts and culture environments. You will be developing a service for the whole of Ireland, which, it is intended, will become a self-financing enterprise after the end of this project with the skills developed by you and the team which you assemble.
Applicants should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and possess an appropriate professional qualification e.g. Accreditation under the Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers (PACR) scheme. You should also possess significant experience of implementing conservation or preservation work in a library, archive or similar setting, including planning and supervising the work of others.

Closing date:
14 December 2007
Interview date:
08 January 2008
