Sender: Rare book and manuscripts <EXLIBRIS-L@LISTSERV.INDIANA.EDU>
Please excuse any cross-postings
We are exploring the idea of establishing a "medium-rare" collection for
those items that aren't necessarily rare but have the potential to be
vandalized or damaged [e.g. graphic novels, art books with tipped in
plates] if allowed to circulate. We believe there need to be measures to
ensure that these types of materials need to be checked after
circulating and to catch damage or vandalism immediately. We are
considering perhaps establishing a collection that would perhaps
circulate from an off-site location [our Annex] through Special
Collections so that materials could be checked before and after
circulation [something our Circulation Department is not equipped to
do].
We are seeking experiences/suggestions/ideas/procedures/etc. from other
institutions and repositories with similar collections.
