forged diaries

The Hitler diaries are the obvious example, but here is a complex and
interesting case of a "forged" diary that turned out to be "real": Roger
Casement's "Black Diaries" were long thought to be forgeries, in part
because of the wide variety and number of homosexual experiences detailed
therein, but have recently been demonstrated to be genuine, although the
experiences may have been concocted by Casement himself. See the Wikipedia
article for a quick summary.
